The need to develop an intellectual response to human error in themselves and others is emphasized throughout this curriculum by helping individuals cultivate an understanding of “Self, Science and Citizenship”. A Tribute To All Our Fallen Heroes"Our prayers are with all the families of this great nation who have had their innocent loved ones killed. Our prayers also go out to the families of the FBI Agents who have performed heroically under all the stress and against all odds. We have waited a long time... and the time is now at hand to finally bring those who masterminded the plan to fleece and destroy America before an American jury for their decision"

USS Cole History
The USS Cole (DDG-67) is an Arleigh Burke-Class, Aegis-equipped guided missile destroyer homeported in Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. The USS Cole is named in honor of Marine Sergeant Darrell S. Cole, a machine-gunner killed in action on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945, during World War II. The Cole was built by the Ingalls/Northrop/Grumman Ship Building Corporation in Pascagoula, Mississippi and launched on February 10, 1995, fitted and delivered to the navy on March 11, 1996 and commissioned on June 8, 1996.
On October 12, 2000 the USS Cole was the target of a terrorist attack in the port city of Aden, Yemen. Seventeen (17) sailors were killed, thirtynine (39) were injured and the ship was heavily damaged. On November 29, 2003, the USS Cole completed its overhaul and was deployed for her first overseas deployment after the bombing and subsequently returned to homeport of Norfolk, Virginia on May 27, 2004 without incident.
ConstructionCole is one of 62 authorized Arleigh Burke-Class guided missile destroyers, and one of 21 members of the Flight I-class that utilized the 5"/54 caliber gun mounts found on the earliest of the Arleigh Burke-Class destroyers. In addition to her guns, the Cole carries nearly 100 missiles of various types aboard two separate Mk 41 VLS Magazines. Her superstructure features the AN/SPY-1 Radar indicative of the Aegis Combat System combat system, which allows the destroyer to track over 100 targets simultaneously. She also has two Phalanx CIWS gun mounts, located immediately fore and aft of the superstructure, which are intended to protect the Cole against enemy missiles that manage to evade the ship's anti-missile missiles. Cole was launched on 10 February 1995, delivered to the Navy on 11 March 1996 and commissioned on 8 June 1996.
USS Battleship New Jersey History
USS New Jersey (BB-62) ("Big J" or "Black Dragon") was an Iowa-class battleship, and was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named in honor of the U.S. state of New Jersey. New Jersey earned more battle stars for combat actions than the other three completed Iowa-class battleships, and is the only U.S. battleship to provide gunfire support during the Vietnam War. During World War II, New Jersey shelled targets on Guam and Okinawa, and screened aircraft carriers conducting raids in the Marshall Islands.
During the Korean War, she was involved in raids up and down the North Korean coast, after which she was decommissioned into the United States Navy reserve fleets, better known as the "mothball fleet". She was briefly reactivated in 1968 and sent to Vietnam to support U.S. troops before returning to the mothball fleet in 1969. Reactivated once more in the 1980s as part of the 600-ship Navy program, New Jersey was modernized to carry missiles and recommissioned for service. In 1983, she participated in U.S. operations during the Lebanese Civil War.
New Jersey was decommissioned for the last time in 1991, having earned a Navy Unit Commendation for service in Vietnam and 19 battle and campaign stars for combat operations during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Lebanese Civil War, and service in the Persian Gulf. After a brief retention in the mothball fleet, she was donated to the Home Port Alliance in Camden, New Jersey, and began her career as a museum ship on the 15th of October 2001.
ConstructionNew Jersey was one of the Iowa-class "fast battleship" designs planned in 1938 by the Preliminary Design Branch at the Bureau of Construction and Repair. She was launched on the 12th of December 1942 and commissioned on the 23rd of May 1943. The ship was the second of the Iowa class to be commissioned by the U.S. Navy. The ship was christened at her launching by Carolyn Edison, wife of Governor Charles Edison of New Jersey, himself a former Secretary of the Navy; and commissioned in Philadelphia on the 23rd of May 1943, with Captain Carl F. Holden in command.
SS United States History
The SS United States was a luxury passenger liner built in 1952 for United States Lines designed to capture the trans-Atlantic speed record.
Built at a cost of $78 million, the ship is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the US. The fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction, and even in her retirement retains the Blue Riband Award, given to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service with the record highest speed.
Her construction was partially subsidized by the US government, since she was designed to allow conversion to a troop carrier should the need arise. The SS United States operated uninterrupted in transatlantic passenger service until 1969. This great passenger ship transported many Americans to and from Europe and other destinations between 1952 and 1969. She carried four U.S. presidents and countless military, diplomatic, and business leaders, celebrities and artists, and foreign heads of state, not to mention thousands of ordinary citizens and immigrants. Famous passengers included John Wayne, Grace Kelly, Salvador Dali and President John F. Kennedy to name a few.
Since 1996 she has been docked at Pier 82 South on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. USS Cole Victims
